A special thanks to Alex's family for supplying the delicious brownies for March's reading reward.
Thank you very much!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful break and enjoyed their family and friends.

I enjoyed seeing all of you again for student led conferences. The students did a wonderful job, I know you were as proud of the children as I was. The students worked very hard on their presentations and it showed.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Character Education is an important part of our curriculum. Greenfield students and staff participate in various community service projects throughout the year. One project students participated in recently was to make holiday and Valentine Day Cards for our soldiers in Afghanistan. One unit of soldiers we wrote to were from right here, in Michigan ! ! We received responses back from some of the soldiers too, expressing their thanks and graitude to the students and thanking them for writing to them. We are all so thankful to the soldiers for all they do for us. The soldiers help protect us and keep us safe. (Click here to see attached letters from the soldiers).
Sometimes we forget the sacrifices our soldiers make. We forget and take for granted the things we can do everyday that they can't. For example, running to the store to get an item we may want or need. Our soldiers don't have that luxury. To help our soldiers get a little bit of home while they are a long way from home we will collect, pack and send "because we care packages" to our brave soldiers.

If you would like to participate in this worthwhile cause please look over the list of items attached so you can donate. We will collect items from April 16th to April 27th. We appreciate any items you can donate.

*If anyone is willing to donate postage cost, it will be greatly appreciated. The cost is $13.00 per box. Again thank you for whatever you can do!! All is appreciated!!!

Dear Greenfield Families:

In honor of Mr. Tobe’s 25th year as Principal at Greenfield Elementary, we will be dedicating a maple tree to him. We would like to invite the entire school community to be part of this gift to Mr. Tobe by having the children contribute .25 to their classroom teacher April 9 through April 18 for “Quarters for a Cause”. Throughout the years, it is evident that not only has Mr. Tobe been a great leader and friend to our students but also an asset to our school community. His continuous generosity and kindness has touched all of us. The tree is a surprise gift for Mr. Tobe.

Now on to Academics: Here are the skills/concepts being covered in the following academic areas.

Reading /Writing - We are continuing Reader's and Writer's Workshop with a focus on fluency. We will start Reader's Theater
after break. I think the children will enjoy it a lot. Please look for scripts to come home soon. Please practice with your child. They do not have to memorize their parts, just practice and be familiar with it.

Math - We took our post test on unit 8 before spring break. We are starting Unit 9 (Measurement) after break.
